I totally support the Ice Bucket-iniative and all the people suffering should be relieved or even cured. And although every sick or dying people is one too many, please look at the statistics. 30.000 American ALS-patients at any given moment is a lot (I don't have global stats) and worldwide attention will hopefully create more empathy among people around the world. But please do not merely donate because of the hype, donate because there are people in need. People which we can help with donating money, working as a volunteer or spreading the awareness. So if you do decide to donate money to the ALS Association please also consider donating to groups that are bringing clean, healthy and fresh drinking water to the developing world.
783 million people worldwide lack access to clean water. 3,4 million people are dying every year because of health effects that are caused by this 'simple' fact. Please donate to groups like 'Charity: Water', 'Water.org' or Unicef (for example).
- Please don't see this as an insult on the ALS community or a trivialization of the problems and diseases we face as the 'modern world'. But try to embed the people that we don't see, know or hear into our giving and empathic actions. Thank you! -
